About

Hi there! My name is Jessa Syracuse, and I am the owner of Mourning Dove Collective. Some of my interests include beauty and skincare, cats, farmer's markets, anime, fitness, and thrifting!

I graduated from Buffalo State University in May of 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Fashion & Textile Technology with a concentration in Fashion Merchandising and a minor in Leadership. After my first year of classes, I knew that I wanted to become a boutique owner after graduation.

During my time at Buffalo State, I learned about the negative impact the fashion industry has on our planet. I also was an intern for Goodwill of Western New York from July 2021 to June 2022. This experience gave me a ton of hands on experience with visual merchandising, social media, and showed me the importance of a sustainable lifestyle.

With everything that I learned, I was inspired to implement sustainable practices into my business. Before the website launched, I was doing research on vendors and wholesale brands that are doing their part to help the planet. I want to sell products that are still trendy and affordable, but I also want them to come from places that are doing their best to combat climate change. For example, small batch sizes and using deadstock fabric cuts down on fabric waste. I also look for brands that are encouraging ethical manufacturing, so all factory workers have safe and clean working conditions and are paid a living wage.

At Mourning Dove Collective, you can find basics and closet staples, as well as fun and trendy pieces. We carry a variety of styles, so anyone can find something they love!

Mourning Dove Collective is still a very new business, so there is still a lot I have to learn. I will be playing around with different seasonal launches, collections, and other things until I figure out what works best for the boutique. Thank you to everyone who has been there for me and supported me from day one!

XOXO
